Response Audio is pleased to announce the release of the Musica Bella MB50 mono bloc amplifiers. The MB50's are  very rugged vacuum tube mono bloc amplifiers operating in Class AB providing 50/60 watts of glorious tube power using EL34, KT77, 6550 or KT88 output tubes.

Each pair of MB50 mono bloc amplifiers are custom built to your preferences.

The Musica Bella MB50 amplifiers utilize a circuit taken from our Bella Extreme 3205 MKIII stereo power amplifier. The original BE 3205 and 3205 MK II amplifiers have become classics within the Bella Extreme lineup. When we discontinued these products, we caught nothing but grief. To keep our customers satisfied, we started improving the 3205 design and then the development of the 3205 MK III circuitry which was then designed into a mono bloc configuration.

The power supply uses a large mains transformer designed exclusively for the Bella Extreme 3205 MKIII and MB50 amplifiers. All circuitry is point to point wired and maintains the same high level of craftsmanship and quality that has always been known throughout Bella Extreme products. At Response Audio, we do believe in using only quality passive components in the manufacturing of our products. One look under the hood and you will see some of the most highly regarded audio component parts assuring the MB50's will become yet another classic.

The Chassis

The standard chassis will be constructed of various thickness of Baltic Birch Ply and veneered with your choice of many high quality real wood veneer options. Stepping up allows you to have your MB50's constructed of a variety of hardwoods to the most exotic combinations of hardwood and exotic real wood veneers.

The MB50's, like the 3205 MK III, were designed and voiced to be mated with our Musica Bella preamplifiers but can easily be driven by any quality tube, solid state or high quality passive preamplifier and/or home theater processor.

The MB50 amplifiers are housed in custom designed wood chassis with options only limited to your imagination. Shown at right is a solid Bubinga / Curly Maple chassis.

Mono blocs vs stereo amplifiers

Stereo amplifiers can obviously sound very good but there are a few aspects that set mono blocs apart from their stereo counterparts. Here are a few things to consider.

  • Mono blocs provide the ability to physically locate amplifier close to speaker to minimize speaker cable length thereby reducing capacitance.

  • With mono bloc amplifiers there is less noise interaction between stereo channels which yields a quieter operation and lower noise floor. Stereo amplifiers utilize shared component and circuit design, especially in the power supply.

  • Vibrations of the amplifier stages themselves can interfere with other channels. Separating into mono blocs helps to eliminate this common noise source.

  • There is less cross talk (leakage) and greater stereo separation which yields enhanced stereo soundstaging.

  • Mono blocs require a dedicated power supply per channel providing better linearity and better stability as well as a lower noise floor.

  • The use of independent power supplies does not rob power from the other channel under heavy loads. What this means is that each amplifier is capable of delivering dynamics more effortlessly.
