Custom GR Research OB-5/OB-7 Crossovers

Response Audio is authorized to custom build crossovers for GR Research Open Baffle Series loudspeakers. We can offer you both custom outboard versions as well as custom build crossovers for internal placement.

Outboard:

Why an outboard crossover? Good question. Removing the crossover from the speaker cabinet eliminates vibration from the drivers entering the components. It also allows the user easier access to the crossover for future tweaking without having to go inside the speaker cabinet. There are further advantages for this in the OB-7 as supplied with the M-130X woofer upgrade. The reason for this is to provide the user with an adjustable Bass Management System (BMS) and tweeter level control (TLC) without having to open up your speakers. This allows you to fine tune the speakers to your room, your system or even just your mood at the time of listening. We use a series of switches allowing you to fine tune the speakers to your room and personal listening preferences. The tweeter level control will have have 2 positions whereas the Bass Management System will provide you with 3 positions.

The crossovers will be housed in an outboard enclosure utilizing high quality switches with connection to the speaker cabinet being made with high quality 'umbilical' cords for a tight, safe connection. Shown below are the 'umbilical' cords used to connect the outboard crossover to the speaker cabinet.  Each is labeled for the proper range of drivers they provide signal to.

Internal:

On the internal crossovers. We will fully assemble the crossover for you so the only thing left to do is install them into the cabinet and wire all the drivers. We build these crossovers on board that will fit at the bottom of the speaker cabinet as designed and built by Custom Concepts.

 

What you will get with the outboard enclosure option:

• Custom build outboard enclosures.

• Three position Bass Management System. This is accomplished by a series of 3 switches per enclosure. (OB-7 Deluxe version only)

• Tweeter Level Control also accomplished by a switch 1 switch per enclosure. (OB-7 Deluxe version only)

• Quality speaker binding post set up for bi-wire/bi-amp capability

• Each enclosure will be equipped with 2 output Speak-On connectors. One for the bass section, the other for the MTM section

• Four additional Speak-On connectors that you will mount to the back of your loudspeaker cabinets. (see note #2 below)

• Four 30" fully assembled custom umbilical cords to connect the crossovers to the speakers. (see picture below) (see note #3 below)

• Umbilical cords will be constructed with DH Labs 'Silver Sonic' Silver Plated Copper wire.

NOTES: Outboard crossovers

1. If you would prefer to wire your speaker drivers to speaker binding post on the back of your cabinet, we can also provide you with umbilical cords terminated with banana plugs or spades at the speaker end. We will also provide instruction on how to wire your speakers.

2. The standard length of the umbilical cords is 30". We can also build these cords to any length needed to accommodate your needs. See pricing in options below.

3. If you are not interested in building a speaker kit and would rather purchase fully assembled speakers, Response Audio is authorized to provide these. FULL DETAILS & PRICING

All crossovers are matched,  assembled and fully tested on our in house system shown here to assure 100% perfection. This pictures shows our in house OB-7 Deluxe system with outboard crossovers.

 

Speaker- If you do not already own or have ordered a pair of OB speakers, the first thing to do is choose which speaker model you are interested in. To do this, please take a look at the kit product page at GR Research. This is where you would place your order for your new speaker kit. The speaker kit comes with everything needed to build a pair of speakers except for the cabinets. At the time of ordering, you MUST let GR Research know that you are having Response Audio build your crossovers and that all crossover components are to be shipped to us.

Cabinets - If you do not want to build your own cabinets and would like them custom built and/or finished to your preferences, you can contact Denny @ Custom Concepts. The OB speakers shown above were designed and built by Custom Concepts who is authorized to build cabinets for GR-Research.
