Shuguang CD 208
Custom Upgrade
The
Shuguang CD 208B CD player from the same company that makes audiophile
praised KT88, 6550 and 12AX7 tubes that achieve rave Shuguang CD208B HDCD CD
player adds the luxurious sound of vacuum tubes to the engineering and
does not use OP AMPS in the circuit path.
In addition to its top-notch performance with standard CDs, the Shuguang CD
208B also scores with high-resolution HDCD discs.
The
upgrade:
Like many of our vacuum tube CD
player upgrades, the path taken with the Shuguang CD 208 is within the
analog output stage. The Shuguang CD 208 is already an exceptional player
and great value that has a lot more hidden potential within. Sonic
enhancements from our analog upgrade include a smoother, more romantic
presentation while increasing the level of transparency, resolution and
detail. You will notice a bit more body and fullness throughout the lower
end and midrange and enhanced air and extension up top. Overall, our
upgrades ad more romance to your listening experience.
This
is achieved by replacing several resistors in critical locations and all
the main coupling capacitors on the analog board with 6 pieces of large
value VH Audio V-Cap OIMP (Oil Impregnated Metalized Polypropylene) capacitors. The
all important first coupling stage capacitors are then bypassed using VH Audio Reference
Grade V-Cap Teflon capacitors.
To accomplish this, Response
Audio will relocate the analog board to make room for an additional custom
made board to house the large physical size of the V-Cap capacitors. The
output signal wire (to RCA jacks) now has to be replaced and is done so with
a high quality shielded copper wire. High quality silver platted copper wire
is used for the digital output.
Shown at right is a picture of
the stock analog output board before any upgrades have been performed. As noted
above, you will not find any Op Amps used in this player. The picture below
shows the new layout and custom mount8ing board for the larger VH Audio OIMP
coupling capacitors.
Pricing:
$760 + return shipping
Price for the complete upgrade is
$760 and includes all parts and labor (upgrade only, does not include CD
player). Additional charges for return shipping will be added to the
invoice. Optional Bybee Purifiers can be added to the output for an
additional $180. The upgraded Shuguang CD 208 comes with a 90 day parts and
labor warranty. Warranty is transferred to Response Audio on all
upgraded units and covers parts and labor of upgraded components only.
Response Audio will bench and
system test all players before leaving our facility.
Due to the nature of the OIMP and
Teflon capacitors, please allow 300 hours of playing time for break-in
before critical listening evaluations.
